PTSD symptoms may affect 1 in every 5 adult critical care survivors

Many sufferers of PTSD don’t think that it is happening to them, because they don’t fit what they understand to be the PTSD demographic, “I thought PTSD was something only soldiers got.” However, PTSD can affect many people exposed to traumatic circumstances.

Righy et. al. (2019) conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of adult critical care survivors. They analysed 48 studies, with a total of 7152 patients. They found an overall prevalence of PTSD symptoms of 19.83% in the 12 months after discharge.
